Uhmmm.... Graduate?: Opinion

Uhmmm.... Graduate?
By: Marika Grace Palasi

Medals and awards are for keeps for most of us. They are like living testimonies of how great we are, what we have achieved, what others could expect from us, and also a proof that we are babies no more.

During graduations, giving of awards are the most awaited part. But above all these, the most important is the certificate of graduation. Finally, your name is printed in it!

You’re now a graduate. But.... How sure are you?

Moving up is more than just the certificate and the ceremony.

It is more about the moral strength, unclouded judgment, impromptu reaction, life perspective, etc., because some people are getting old or, as I say, graduating but not actually maturing.

Some have lived many years but still miss the point.

They are like babies wearing a very loose polo shirt that is dropping down their small shoulders.

The person does not fit the reputation.

A baby can’t handle the heavy shirt.

I am interrelating schooling to real life. Schooling is not just about having a good education so you could have a stable job. It is not just about entering the next level and saying that you have “passed”. But it is also a series of character developing activities and challenges that will trigger your inner longings and potentials.(Thoughts inspired by my high school teachers :))

Because of it, you were taught to stretch the borders you have set for yourself and welcome the unknowns.

Remember your first crush?

 Your first embarrassing moment?

 Your first medal?

How about your first longing for a Christ?

Most of us would admit that our schools were the witnesses of these.

This is our rehearsal for the real show, a miniature of the world.

This is where our rough edges are scraped and polished, so we are much able than before we entered school. I believe that JCS is striving to produce and nurture educated and intelligent people who could compete in a good way to the vast world, BUT their character and spirituality back-up their high regard. This should really be.

A beggar in his feet is better than a gentleman in his knees. An empty sack cannot really stand.

They say, “It’s lonely up there.” True, many people are trying to oppose the law of gravity. Yet they will just end up like all of us will be, being one with where your feet is standing. We are made to exist together and to be one big family.

More than the recognition of being a graduate, be mature and look beyond.

Studying, learning and being corrected won’t just end at what we call school. But, in fact, we won’t leave it at all. We just transfer from different classrooms, for life itself is a school where God is our teacher. So welcome those sandpapers!

When you graduate, make sure you really did; make sure you can handle the failures and the successes. So be equipped today with the right purposes. And make sure that you are focused, for you don’t want to pull yourself on different directions.

To God be the glory always!
